Mathias Eick, the young Norwegian trumpeter featured on this moodily melodious set (equally attractive for jazz and classical listeners) is touring the UK from this week – his clarity of line and whispering tone suggest he will be compelling in any setting. Lars Danielsson, the Swedish composer/bassist/cellist, has a penchant for slowly unfolding romantic themes, which get premier-league support here from Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer, UK guitarist John Parricelli and the dazzling American drummer Eric Harland – though Harland mostly restricts his role to colouration rather than his more familiar whirlwind propulsiveness.
